John Heimbuck
John Heimbuck served as the Oregon Chapter President from 1988 and 1989. John is descendant of Volga German colonist Heinrich Heimbuch who settled in Balzer, Russia in 1765.
John was born in Nebraska on August 2, 1921 the son of George and Elizabeth Heimbuch. HIs parents immigrated to the United States and settled in Scottsbluff, Nebraska around 1909. In 1941, John married Martha Whitman (Wittman) who was also born in Scottsbluff and they moved to Portland. During World War II he served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army. John and Martha were both longtime members of AHSGR. John was an active president and worked closely with past president Cliff Haberman to build chapter membership to approximately 450. John died on June 14, 2001 in McMinnville, Oregon. He is buried at the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. |
